Logan 1.4 GLX GOOD or BAD

Mahindra Logan 1.4 GLX review

I bought Logan 1.4 GLX @ 3~4 months back and jotting down my complete experience after driving @ 3000 kms and first servicing done last week.

Initial Inquiry experience: RATING - FAIR
1) Showroom environment is not so good for a family visit
2) all colour cars were not available for display so if at all you are interested in other colours then you have to see cars on ROAD and decide ha ! ha !! or wait to see one colour per week ?? ...

PDI experience : RATING - BAD
1) Car delivered with odometer 70 km reading ? I don't know how can they deliver car with that much running before selling the car.
2) Car delivered with no petrol in it (fuel fill warning lamp was ON), so what I did is first drive the car to the nearest gas filling station !
3) PDI not OK - they forgot to fit one fuse ? so cabin light was not working, this I noticed and went back to service station to fit fuse ? I don't understand then the meaning of PDI !
4) Showroom executive not knowing how to reset trip meter
5) Wiper noise found which they told that it is design defect and will not be possible to fix this ? and till now they have not fixed it...
6) I wanted to fit matting immediately but OE matting was not available, so after repeated followup (? - this I never did with Maruti Suzuki or my friends never did for Hyundai Santro) and complaint I got matting fitted ?

First service experience: RATING - WORST
1) I have used Maruti service for almost 10 years and till date they used to remind me about service due data, in Logan case their is no responsibility from company/showroom to remind even for first servicing :-)
2) service station persons are so used to see drivers of Scorpio / Bolero coming to them so they treat you like drivers of SUV and not owners of a car ?
3) if you see Hyundai / Maruti / GM service stations, they provide car pickup and drop facility for servicing, but here you need to drop and pick your car on your own spending your valuable time
4) when I reached service station at booking time i.e. 9.30 am, they said it will take 10~15 minutes for computer booting ? I am using computers for last 18 years but never took so much time for booting my computer ! ha ! ha !!! so after awaiting I could finally enroll my car by spending 45 minutes, all drivers are trying to put their vehicles for servicing and so do I.
5) After servicing is over you need to followup for completion of service and also need to find out where is your car and who the hell is responsible for finding our the car (physically) and bill papers (although it is free servicing you need invoice !) , so you spend @ 1 hour in doing all these formalities ???
6) Your car clock is reset during servicing and it is your responsibility to set it again and not showroom ??? then why the hell the clock should be reset ?? thank god the odometer reading is not reset during servicing ! ha ! ha !!!

Few good points for Logan are :
1) Excellent roominess (head room, shoulder room, leg room) 3 passengers can sit comfortably in the rear seat
2) Excellent boot space
3) Comfortable seats
4) Soft suspension - good on bumpy roads so you will never experience any ditch/bump, but due to this car roll is high so slightly feels uncomfortable in Ghat sections
5) Good NVH Insulation - this ensures that even riding on bad roads on speed does not disturb you with annoying humming noise, which I have experience in many cars
6) Good HVAC, also you can close the HVAC vents to full extent
7) Safe - the door shut click itself gives you confidence of safety, too good
8) Good braking

Overall mileage for petrol version with A/C ON and short trips @12~12.5 kmpl

Some bad points for Logan are:
1) Clutch too hard, so impossible to drive in city for frequent gear change, you will experience pain in all joints !!!
2) Wiper noise - and they say it is not possible to remove noise completely, it is really irritating
3) Steering slightly hard compared to say ford Ikon, Huyndai accent, feels heavy after long drive
4) Wiper moves in opposite direction leaving blind spot for driver so difficult while turning, this is really bad when it is raining and you need to slow down a lot to judge view during right turn
5) Surprisingly HVAC heater core (coming from radiator) is exposed inside the cabin so you will definitely get hot touch !
6) Door is very difficult to pull, most of the time my family members are not able to pull the door, their is no separate door handle provided and the one which is integral to the trim is too shallow to grip.
7) ABC pedal to steering relation not OK ergonomically, so you feel fatigue after a long drive
8) All window operation buttons on dash and middle location, poor strategy to save money, not so convenient
9) Interior looks cheap due to colour and texture selection for dash and door trim
10) Poor visibility of odometer, very small font size

To me the most negative out of all these points for Logan is the servicing part of it and if not improved in future definitely this is going to hard hit due to bad mouth publicity. So may be a good car will get spoiled due to this. Some points like wiper noise and clutch hard must be taken care of by the design team even for the existing customers, that is the only way they may get some new customers .. else .. the future is bright !!!

You are right about its hard clutch, I am driving Logan since May 2007 and now developed a constant knee pain in my left leg, I also written about it in my blog at - http://www.loganclub.in/2009/03/logan-is-perfect-for-a-knee-pa.html
